AAMG Academic Museum Leadership Seminar

In partnership with the Kellogg School of Management
Center for Nonprofit Management at Northwestern University

Dynamic, engaging, highly interactive by design and interspersed with team and individual problem-solving exercises in leadership and management, this intensive five-day certificate program will allow you to learn from one another and be guided and inspired by nationally recognized scholars drawn principally from Kellogg’s renowned faculty.

You will learn new strategies to address leadership challenges unique to academic museums, including navigating and addressing the diverse needs of faculty, administration, students, and community constituencies, creating win-win situations for all. Seminar Fellows will learn to broaden communications to reach and inspire diverse audiences ranging from millennials to retirees, and explore new ways of successfully leading institutional change as well as strategies to manage crises. Additional topics include effective ways of composing and presenting your museum’s financial information to your board and donors and successful fundraising strategies from Kellogg’s inspirational instructors.

Piloted in 2012 and held again in 2014, the AAMG/Kellogg Academic Museum and Gallery Leadership Seminar has two main goals: To have an impact on the professional lives of the participating museum professionals and, through them, upon the field as a whole. The 2012 pilot and 2014 Seminars were nothing less than transformative for attendees.  For the 2016 Leadership Seminar up to 40 applicants will be identified as Seminar participants by the Application Review Team based upon this diverse group of academic museum and gallery leaders’ evaluation of each candidate’s commitment to, and potential for growth in, the field of academic museum and gallery leadership and the organizers’ search for diversity in the class.
