Chief Executive Officer – Remai Modern

Location: Saskatoon, Saskatchewan

A stimulating Chief Executive Officer opportunity exists for a charismatic and visionary leader.

Remai Modern is a new museum of modern and contemporary art in Saskatoon, a growing city on the vast and ever-changing Canadian Prairies. Remai Modern offers a unique perspective on art and culture in the 21st century, with an eye on the future.  Building on the legacy of the Mendel Art Gallery, Remai Modern is setting a new direction for art in Saskatchewan. With increased capacity and a diverse team, Remai Modern is advancing as Canada’s museum of modern art.

The Board of Directors is seeking a Chief Executive Officer to lead Remai Modern through the development and execution of a long-term strategic plan based on five key pillars: Art, Engagement, Experience, Sustainability, and People.

The Chief Executive Officer is accountable to the Board of Directors for providing overall leadership and direction to the Remai Art Gallery of Saskatchewan (Remai) in support of the mandate of the organization.  The CEO is responsible for ensuring the interests of the organization are served within the policies established by the Board, and for the achievement of the organization’s strategic and operational goals and objectives.  The CEO is also responsible to ensure efficient operation of the facility, provide direction and leadership to gallery staff, and develop effective relationships with the community and stakeholders.  The CEO will lead with the values of integrity, honesty, compassion and respect.

The ideal candidate is a visionary and charismatic leader with a track record of success in the museum and art gallery community, or alternatively comes from an attraction-based, guest / audience-driven organization. Potential candidates should be entrepreneurial, strategic, and innovative, with the ability to communicate and foster relationships with a wide range of constituents, partners and stakeholders. The combination of strong business credentials and a passion for the arts and culture will be important to balance curatorial excellence and commercial success.

If you are a future-focused leader and are inspired by a vision to enable transformative experiences by connecting art with local and global communities, please contact Dan Brown at 306-986-2295 or Nathan Berko at Boyden at 403-410-6700 or forward your cover letter and resume to opportunities@boyden.com, and state the title of the position in the subject line of your e-mail.
