Responsibilities Working with the Director and in close partnership with the Museum of Art staff, the Curator plans and coordinates exhibits, developing and maintaining the Exhibition Calendar. Researchers and develops permanent Museum installations and assists in the development of major and temporary exhibition projects. Additionally, the Curator will undertake collection research and cataloging, participate in program evaluation, and engage in professional training and networking. The Curator conceives, organizes, writes content and publications for exhibits and participates in exhibit installation. 1. Planning and Coordination of Exhibitions: Collaboratively develops, organizes, and maintains the Museum calendar of exhibitions and special events, coordinating calls for artwork, advance identification of physical, personnel, and other support needs for exhibitions • Coordinates with Museum Director, Dean of Library and Academic Resources to develop a schedule of exhibitions and events with all preparation, issuing of calls for work, exhibit design, receiving, installation, openings, staffing, de-installation, and maintenance (for the year)??? • Participates in the research, development, and execution of permanent collection upkeep, object rotation, and new installation • Prepares 1 -2 proposals for new installations annually • Assist with the development and evaluation of major temporary exhibitions, including participating in prototyping and front-end evaluation, researching and writing texts, conducting artifact and object research • Participates in all aspects of collection work including conducting collection surveys, cataloging, researching and preparing justifications for new acquisitions and deaccessions; participates in the evaluation of loan requests • Researchers and develops presentations and talks for donor groups, campus audiences, professional conferences and symposia, the public and docents as needed • Researchers and writes material for museum publications including for digital and social media platforms • Conducts research on biographies, exhibit objects, museum collection subjects and related topics • Creates and issues call for work. Disseminates these calls through all appropriate media 2. Promotion of exhibitions, opening, and closing receptions, and special events: • Develops, in coordination with Museum staff, posters, flyers, and cards, electronic flyers, press releases, website postings, and social media promotion materials for each exhibition and event • Ensures that physical and digital promotional materials are widely distributed to campus and community audiences 3. Exhibit Installation/Deinstallation: • In collaboration with Museum staff installs, student, faculty, and community artworks and installations • Designs exhibition space, including hanging, signage, labels, and lighting of exhibits and events • Develops, in coordination with artists and faculty, informational and educational materials to supplement exhibitions and events • In concert with Museum staff de-installs student, faculty, and community artworks and installations and restores the gallery to its original state 4. Outreach: • Liaises with Faculty, and Administrators works closely with Museum staff to facilitate gallery planning and operations and conducts outreach to community members and groups • Meets regularly with the Director and Museum staff to ensure that the Museum achieves Department and College goals • Schedules prepare and give lectures on subjects relevant to exhibitions and the permanent collection; may show pertinent materials from the Museum’s collection in the course of lectures • Conducts tours of the Museum for various groups • Gives lectures and gallery talks relating to exhibits and collections; prepares and publishes articles and catalogs concerning exhibitions and collections 5. Management and Supervision: • Plans and monitors annual Exhibitions budget • Works with Museum Director to develop funding proposals for internal and external resources and grants • Trains and supervises student staff and interns
