Wilkes University invites applicants for the position of Director of the Sordoni Art Gallery. A non-collecting art gallery devoted to educational outreach, the Sordoni Art Gallery is relocating to a new and more publicly accessible space on the campus gateway corridor that links campus to downtown Wilkes-Barre. The successful candidate will be responsible for launching the new gallery and strengthening its engagement with the Wilkes University community and its other constituencies.
Reporting to the Dean of the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, the Director will also hold a tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Integrative Media, Art, and Design. Teaching duties will include two courses per semester including the departments general education offerings. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
The Director will be responsible for all aspects of the gallery’s operations, including curation, budget management, exhibitions, publicity, educational programs, fundraising, grant writing, and supervising staff. The Director also represents the gallery to the public, including donors, gallery visitors, media, and the museum and arts communities in the region.
Qualifications:
M.A., M.F.A., or Ph.D. in appropriate discipline required; M.F.A. or Ph.D. preferred.
Five years of progressively responsible experience in art gallery operations, including all aspects of exhibition management and curation.
Demonstrated commitment to diversity.
Experience with budget management and strategic planning.
Experience with publicity and fundraising, including grants.
Experience with community engagement and programming.
Strong written and verbal communication, public relations, and marketing skills.
Experience with teaching, scholarship, advising, and service.
Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills, including supervision of staff.
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to coordinate multiple projects.
