Fulbright U.S. Scholar Opportunities in Museum Studies

Dear Colleagues,

The Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program offers teaching, research or combination teaching and research awards in over 125 countries for the 2019-2020 academic year. Opportunities are available for college and university faculty as well as for professionals and independent scholars. Awards that may be of interest to the AAMG community include:

Austria – Fulbright Natural History Museum Vienna Visiting Researcher

Open to academics and appropriately qualified professionals outside of academia to conduct scientific research for four months at the Natural History Museum Vienna, one of the premier research museums in the world, which houses over 30 million artifacts in its extensive and precious historic collections in the fields of anthropology, botany, geology, mineralogy, meteorites, paleontology and zoology. It is equipped with modern electron microprobe and electron microscopy as well as DNA laboratories.

Jamaica – All Disciplines

Teach and/or conduct research in your area of expertise. While a Ph.D. (or other terminal degree) is preferred, but master’s degree with at least three years of teaching experience will be considered. The U.S. Embassy is particularly interested in applicants in the museum management, and conservation of culturally significant items fields. A letter of invitation is strongly preferred and all teaching will be in English.

Taiwan – Arts, Education, Humanities, Professional Fields and Social Sciences

Arts & Culture is an area of interest to the commission in Taiwan in which they are hoping to expand on. Scholars will have the opportunity to teach, conduct research ,or do a combination of both. For research and teaching/research grants, with prior approval, up to one-fifth of your total grant period may be spent in mainland China. All teaching will be in English. You may affiliate with any appropriate institution, and previous research grantees have been affiliated with such organizations as Academic Sinica, National Central Library, National Palace Museum, National Health Research Institute. Taiwan also offers apostdoctoral opportunity.

Ukraine – Cultural Resource Management

Teach undergraduate or graduate courses, or both at any appropriate institution accredited by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. Applications are particularly sought in museum studies (museum management, collections care, curatorship, museum education and exhibition planning, development and design). Museum studies or preservation studies programs exist at the Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts, Kyiv Taras Shevchenko National University, Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, Lviv Polytechnic National University,  Kharkiv State Academy of Culture.

Vietnam – All Disciplines

Museology is a preferred area of specialization for scholars to teach, or teach and conduct research in. Additionally, scholars may advise on curriculum and program development, as well as conduct faculty development workshops. All teaching will be in English, and a letter of invitation is strongly preferred.
