Pierre Daura Curatorial Research Assistant, European Art – Georgia Museum of Art at the University of Georgia

Preferred qualifications:

  • MA or equivalent in art history or curation.
  • 2+ years museum/gallery experience, with collection-related experience preferred.
  • Please Note: This position is funded for a period of three years, with the possibility of renewal.

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Pierre Daura Curator of European Art, the incumbent will assist with a range of responsibilities related to the acquisition, research, and display of its rich and extensive collections, as well as providing curatorial support for installation planning, loans, and special exhibitions. This will be a full-time, benefit eligible position funded for a period of three years with the possibility of renewal.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies: 

  • Working knowledge of 20th- and 21st-century art history with a focus in 20th-century European art
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Initiative and collaborative spirit
  • Reading knowledge of 1 or more foreign languages (French, Spanish, Catalan)
  • Technical proficiency with personal computers and standard office equipment; fluent with Microsoft Office platform (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access); experience with collection management software; experience with TMS (The Museum System)

Physical Demands

Bend, lift works of art, climb ladders, stand for long periods of time, spend long periods of time on the computer.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Conduct scholarly research on artists and objects (permanent collection and special exhibitions) – 50%
  • Update checklists, databases, and files- 10%
  • Facilitate loan planning and paperwork, liaise with internal and external colleagues, and internal and external correspondence (writing letters, e-mails, etc.) – 10%
  • Organize and file documents and research materials for the permanent collection and the Pierre Daura Study Center – 10%
  • Assist in the writing of education material (labels, panels, brochures, etc.) – 10%
  • Prepare materials for presentations, tours, and lectures; other duties as assigned – 10%
