Traveling Exhibition: The Beautiful Mysterious: The Extraordinary Gaze of William Eggleston

The University of Mississippi Museum would like to announce a unique William Eggleston show our institution is traveling. The Beautiful Mysterious: The Extraordinary Gaze of William Eggleston. It debuted here in Oxford from September, 2016 to February, 2017 and opened for a June 23 to September 3, 2017 run at the Mennello Museum of American Art in Orlando.

Traveling availabilities thereafter commence mid-September 2017, through 2022.

All of the 36 exhibition images were gifted to us by the legendary Bill Ferris of UNC, and Guest Curator was NYC-based novelist Megan Abbott. Winston Eggleston, Memphis-based and managing his father’s Eggleston Artistic Trust, alerted us that the seven black & whites in this 36-image show are unique-copy single prints.

Consulting Advisor for the exhibition was Bill Eggleston’s first cousin, distinguished photographer and author Maude Schuyler Clay. The prints cover a span from 1962 into the 1980s, and represent photos from each of Eggleston’s main projects within that time period  – – plus dye transfers and works that have never been on display outside our Museum.
