POLYREAL/DESIGNING FOR MULTIPLE REALITIES
POLYREAL/DESIGNING FOR MULTIPLE REALITIES
What exactly is the future of art and design when the conjured image and created
object stand in for each other? Artists and designers are increasingly reaching across
and through the divide between virtual and actual and experimenting at a dizzying
speed.
Much has been made of the pioneering forays into augmented reality and
digitally-customized design over the past decade. As so many experiences have shifted
online, we have learned to exist primarily in a virtual space. Artists and designers are
toggling between worlds on each side of the screen. The resulting work implicates
the viewer in the dynamic shifting from one kind of reality (virtual) to another
(physical) or straddling both. What does design for these multiple realities look like?
EXHIBITION DESCRIPTION
The exhibition presentation will look to multiple forms of display, referencing the various realities represented.
In some cases the work will be best represented virtually (3), in other instances as an object in real space (9), or as a combination of each realm (7). We aim to feature multiple aspects of design by a global roster of artists, both emerging and established.

CURATORIAL TEAM
c2-curatorsquared is a curatorial partnership between Ginger Gregg Duggan and Judith Hoos Fox, founded in 2008. Their work focuses on contemporary art and design and the zone where these definitions challenge each other.
Dutch Invertuals, founded and directed by Wendy Plomp, initiates research projects that explore emergent cultural and social themes to understand and envision the world of tomorrow. They bundle creative thinking and initiate projects to navigate the unknown. From their Eindhoven-based studio, they turn research into tangible products and experiences.
EXHIBITION STATUS
We seek an institution with which to partner to bring this exhibition to life. As guest curators, we plan the exhibition with the host, secure the loans, write texts, collaborate on exhibition design and educational programs. Exhibition size will be determined with host museum. We also seek venues, should the exhibition travel.
