Northern Michigan University is seeking applications for a Collections Curator. The position manages all aspects of the museum’s permanent art collection including conservation, documentation, storage, research, and acquisition of works of art. Contributes to preparing educational materials for collection items on display. Runs the educational program for all age groups including research and planning for museum tours. 

Minimum qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Studio Art, Art History or Museum Studies. One year of experience working in a gallery or museum with a permanent art collection and education program. 

Required knowledge/skills/abilities: Ability to handle original works of art appropriately. Proven interest in museum operations and collections management. Highly organized and self-motivated, ability to take initiative and exercise independent judgment. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with a variety of staff and the public, including curators, educators, preparators, faculty, and K-12 and college students. Well-developed written communication skills and attention to detail. Ability to work well under pressure. Excellent time management skills. 

The schedule is traditionally Monday-Friday, 8:00 am-5:00 pm with occasional evening and weekend work required. The targeted salary range is $40,240-$43,250.
