May 2026 Member of the Month

Meet Amanda Stout (she/her), Coordinator of Education and Engagement at the University of Iowa Pentacrest Museums!
Amanda loves the variety each day brings and the opportunity to work closely with students in both office and educational settings. As a supervisor, she’s been focused on growing her ability to support others and foster a positive workplace.
What’s one thing — either industry/work-related or not — you learned in the past month?
I’ve learned more about my role as a supervisor and supporting others in the work place.
What do you value about your membership with AAMG?
I value the community it provides as well as the support, workshops, and conferences which are opportunities to learn, see what other museums are doing, and feel like a valued member of the community.
If you could trade places with anyone for a day, who would it be?
Probably someone performing on Broadway to experience firsthand the rehearsals, performances, and talent.
Coffee or Tea?
I love both too much to decide! Sometimes I even mix them together!

Book/Author suggestion?
The Women by Kristin Hannah. I really have enjoyed all of her books so far.
What did you want to be when you were growing up?
An art teacher, children’s book illustrator, and muralist. All things art!
What do you enjoy most about being a part of an academic museum?
I love how much my days vary as well as my work. I also love how much I get to work with students both in the office and educational settings.
What are your hopes for our industry?
To become more integrated with faculty and courses. In a more stagnant and digital learning environment, the museum provides a more hands on approach to learning and research that requires a different approach.
Bonus: Do you have a favorite joke to share?
What is a cow’s favorite music note? Beef flat
