September Member of the Month

Meet Robert Terentieff (he/him), a Student Curator at the Housatonic Museum of Art, Housatonic Community College!

What’s one thing — either industry/work-related or not — you learned in the past month?

How hard writing transfer applications are!

What do you value about your membership with AAMG?

I truly value the student representation. I don’t think I can think of another museum-adjacent organization that puts so much emphasis on publishing and connecting student voices across the public and digital humanities.

A Ghost Hunter

What do you enjoy most about being a part of an academic museum?

I’m so incredibly proud of our collection for a two-year college. I think community colleges, particularly as homes for non-traditional students, have so much to offer the art world and creative disciplines. You can really see that in the way art is integrated throughout campus, creating a kind of neon running through the everyday life of the college.

What are your hopes for our industry?

I hope our field continues to embrace interdisciplinary work. I think some of the most interesting ideas happen when we stop thinking of museums as belonging to just one discipline, not just in how we show art, but in how we think about who works and belongs there.

If you could trade places with anyone for a day, who would it be?

Patti Smith
