Introducing AAMG Certification for Academic Museums

Academic museums and galleries are uniquely positioned at the crossroads of teaching, research, and community engagement. Yet until now, there has not been a national program of recognized standards designed specifically for the needs, challenges, and aspirations of campus-based museums. That changes today.

The Association of Academic Museums and Galleries (AAMG) is proud to launch its Certification Program for Academic Museums—a supportive process that recognizes excellence, fosters continuous improvement, and celebrates the distinct role our institutions play in higher education.

Unlike general museum accreditation programs, AAMG Certification speaks directly to the unique ecosystem of academic museums and galleries. The standards and review process reflect the complexities of working within higher education while acknowledging the extraordinary opportunities campus museums offer.  Academic museums are encouraged to pursue accreditation from the American Alliance of Museums (AAM) beyond their certification by AAMG if their resources allow.
