The Lowe Art Museum, which is an AAM-accredited museum and a member of AAMD, is looking for a dynamic and talented Assistant Director for Collections and Exhibition Services. This individual will be responsible for helping to ensure the Lowe Art Museum’s compliance with the highest professional standards in the fields of collections management, exhibition management and organization, curatorial research, and education. Supervises Collection Manager, Preparators, and Curatorial Assistant. Reports to the Director/Chief Curator.

Duties include, but are not limited to:
-Working closely with the Director/Chief Curator on the identification and acquisition of outstanding works of art for the Lowe’s collections.
-Providing leadership and expertise in the presentation of the Lowe’s permanent collection.
-Developing and presenting high quality exhibitions.
-Managing all deaccessioning/collections refinement projects.
-Managing/supervising Collections Manager, Preparators, and Curatorial Assistant.
-Managing Collection and Exhibition Department, including the preparation and overseeing of departmental budgets.
-Researching, writing, and editing written materials for Lowe exhibitions and programs (including-but not limited to-wall labels and texts, brochures/catalogues, and audio guide scripts).
-Coordinating fine arts insurance program in association with Risk Management department.
-Answering public inquires and working with local, regional, and national collectors.
-Providing access to the collection for approved outside researchers and UM faculty and students; working with UM Faculty to develop and implement collaborative collections projects.
-Conducting original research related to the Lowe’s permanent collections.
-Making recommendations for art loans to/from other art institutions.
-Negotiating loans and venues for exhibition tours.
-Participating actively in the development and implementation of educational programming, including tours brochures/catalogues in support of the Lowe’s exhibitions.
-Working closely and effectively with colleagues in University Advancement to raise funds for collections and exhibition projects (including assisting with the writing of grant and other funding proposals).
-Creating and maintaining excellent donor relations on behalf of the Lowe (in concert with University Advancement).
-Assuming lead role in maintaining the Lowe’s AAM accreditation, including reaccreditation in 2018 and future reaccreditations.

Requirements
M.A.in Art History required. Ph.D is preferred.
Minimum of five years experience in a museum or curatorial position.
Effective presentation skills.
Ability to develop and maintain departmental budgets.
Excellent inter-personal and management skills.
Reading and speaking skills in one or more foreign languages highly desirable
Must be highly motivated and an independent self-starter.
