Associate Director of Academic and Public Programs – Moody Center for the Arts, Rice University

Job Description:

The Associate Director of Academic and Public Programs is a newly created position at the Moody Center for the Arts at Rice University for an experienced arts educator to develop and implement campus and community programs that support the Moody’s strategic plan and reflect best practices in the field. The position will collaborate with internal and external partners to amplify access to the Moody’s exhibitions and programs for all audiences, including Rice faculty and students, K-12 teachers and students, families, and adult visitors. The ideal candidate will bring professional experience in the educational field from the non-profit cultural sector, demonstrate a proactive, positive attitude, and thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial work environment.

Responsibilities

Work with the Executive Director and Deputy Director to set overall educational goals for the Moody. Devise and implement innovative programs to achieve these goals for all audiences. Track the success of learning and interpretation initiatives through evaluation and metrics.

Conceive and execute tours, lectures, classes, panel discussions, workshops, symposia, conferences and other events that enhance cross-disciplinary learning, interpretation and conversation through the arts.

Draft interpretive materials, together with curatorial staff, in both digital and analog formats.

Actively follow the activities and initiatives of academic departments and centers across campus, with the goal of creating interdisciplinary programs and developing collaborative opportunities for the exchange of art and ideas.

Support the Moody’s DEIA initiatives across all activities, both internal and external.

Stay current with developments in the field, bringing fresh ideas to all facets of the program, from audience outreach to program planning and implementation to budgeting and reporting to feedback and evaluation.

Enable funding efforts by partnering with development staff to apply for grants or garner other means of financial support, as needed.

Manage student interns.

This position requires a flexible schedule to accommodate programs, events, and after-hours work, including regularly occurring weekend and evening hours.
