Associate Director of Museum Membership and Donor Relations: Palmer Museum of Art, The Pennsylvania State University

This annual giving specialist with the working title of the Associate Director of Museum Membership and Donor Relations is a member of the Division of Development and Alumni Relations (DDAR) and serves as the embedded development professional for the Palmer Museum of Art reporting to the College of Arts and Architecture (CAA) Development Director. This position has a dotted line to the Director of the Palmer Museum of Art, who has significant input and provides direction for the position’s goals and accomplishments for the museum, serving as the day to day supervisor. Working with the Palmer Director, museum staff, and the CAA Development Director, the position seeks to grow engagement across the donor continuum for the museum and implement development best practices for the museum. The Palmer Museum of Art is an integrated part of the arts community at Penn State and as such, the individual in this role will serve as a member of the local patron outreach team led by CAA Director of Arts Engagement, a subset of the CAA Development Office. The individual in this position will design, coordinate and implement comprehensive giving programs aimed to significantly increase involvement of the Palmer’s donors and patrons which will attract new donors to support the organization’s vision, mission, and service to the Penn State campus and central Pennsylvania region. The major focus of this position will include overseeing the museum’s membership program (known as the Friends), coordinating annual giving appeals, and managing fundraising and donor engagement events. The Associate Director of Museum Membership and Donor Relations will be a key outward face of the organization. S/he will attend museum events and programs where donor engagement is required. S/he will maintain strong ties and connections to the community and the region, as well as attend community events and forums. S/he will represent the Palmer at development conferences and participate in professional networks and committees. Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree or higher plus three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from hire date with excellent possibility of re-funding.
