Curator of Education – Syracuse University Art Museum


Description
Work closely with faculty, museum colleagues, and other campus and community groups to create distinct learning opportunities and further integrate the museum into curriculum and research. Facilitate discovery and pedagogical use of artworks; lead object centered teaching and research workshops for instructors across campus; and assist faculty and students as they produce original research on collection objects. Create resources on teaching with the collection, including finding aids on core subjects and topics that can be used by instructors to achieve curriculum integration with the collection. Work closely with museum staff to develop, implement and oversee the museum’s schedule of public programs

Qualifications
MA in Art History or related field required, PhD preferred. Museum and teaching experience preferred. 
Must have effective oral and written communication skills.

Primary Responsibilities
-Work closely with faculty, museum colleagues, and other campus and community groups to create distinct learning opportunities and further integrate the museum in curriculum, research.

-Facilitate discovery and pedagogical use of artworks; lead object centered teaching and research workshops for instructors; and assist instructors and students as they produce original research on collection objects.

-Strengthen school/family/youth/access audiences + oversee outreach with regional groups to create sustained relationship with community partners and provides SU students with hands-on experience.

-Create resources on teaching with the collection, including finding aids on core subjects and topics that can be used by instructors to achieve curriculum integration with the collection.

-Manage and lead classroom visits, gallery and exhibition tours, and enable faculty collaborations that can range from a single class visit to exhibition projects.

-Work closely with museum staff to develop, implement and oversee the museum’s schedule of public programs. Establish an evaluation process to regularly review success of the public programs. Engage in best practices of bringing diversity, equity, and inclusion to all museum programs.

-Organize trainings and materials for staff and volunteers on special exhibitions, public programs, and the permanent collection.

-Design, implement, lead and evaluate a gallery teaching program led by Syracuse University students. -Supervise interns and volunteers.

-Oversee and help teach the Photography and Literacy Program (PAL).

-Works with instructors to coordinate access to the museum educational spaces on main campus and at the Nancy Cantor Warehouse downtown and their equipment, and maintains facility and supplies in the facility.

-Manages and arranges access to artwork as needed.

-Work with museum staff to author newsletters, press releases, and other promotional material.

-Work closely with museum staff to conduct research and writing on museum grants as needed.
