Curatorial Coordinator – Gardiner Gallery of Art, Oklahoma State University

The Department of Art, Graphic Design and Art History at Oklahoma State University seeks applications for the full-time position of Curatorial Coordinator of the Gardiner Gallery of Art. The gallery has a busy exhibition schedule of up to 10 shows a year, including 4-5 exhibitions of student work. The coordinator will also assist in the management of the departmental website and social media platforms for the department and gallery. The coordinator will work closely with Department faculty, staff at the Prairie Arts Center, and the curatorial staff of the OSU Museum of Art to create and coordinate exhibitions and programming. The coordinator’s direct supervisor is the Head of the Department of Art, Graphic Design and Art History. The coordinator will supervise and mentor students and interns in the management of the gallery and she/he must be collaborative and team oriented in her/his approach to installation and monitoring of the gallery space. This position may require independent overnight travel for research, professional meetings, and conveying work nationally, as well as other types of travel necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of this position. While performing the duties of this job, the coordinator may occasionally be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and outside weather conditions. The job will require lifting and moving objects on a frequent basis. The employee must regularly lift and/or move twenty five (25) pounds. In addition, the coordinator is expected to teach a class primarily in internships, as needed.  

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s in Art or Art History. Minimum of one year’s experience in a museum or gallery or related experience and/or training.

Experience with exhibition installation and de-installation; exhibition development and design; budget planning; grant writing; social media. Good written and oral communication skills. The manager must be able to take direction from a number of key stakeholders and work well within a dynamic and flexible work environment. 

Experience with: 
-PC/Mac computer Platforms 
-Microsoft Word, PhotoShop, PowerPoint, FileMakerPro; Past Perfect 
-internet and library research 

Must be able to regularly lift and/or move a minimum of twenty five (25) pounds. Must have a valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications:

A master’s degree in Art History, Museum Studies, or an MFA in Visual Art is preferred. Two years’ or more experience in a museum or gallery or related experience and/or training.
