Director and Instructor: Meadows Museum, Centenary College of Louisiana

Centenary College of Louisiana invites applications for a Museum Director and faculty Instructor to begin no later than August 2017.

Primary Responsibilities will include providing vision, leadership and guidance in aligning the goals and objectives of the Meadows Institutional Plan with the College’s evolving strategic plan; planning and preparing innovative exhibitions that serve our diverse and inclusive campus and community; managing the daily and long-term operations of the Meadows Museum of Art, such as exhibition installation, budget, public relations, facilities–including the Museum store, and supervision of a robust program of student interns; maintaining accreditation standards; and teaching one course per semester in the Art Department and/or the Museum Management program. In addition, the Director is expected to manage fundraising activities by working with the College’s development office, writing grants, and stewarding donor relations, including with the Friends of the Meadows Museum. This position reports to the Provost.

Minimum qualifications include an advanced degree in a visual arts discipline; previous museum or gallery experience; and strong marketing and communication skills. Preferred qualifications include a terminal degree in a visual arts discipline, museology, curatorial studies, or a museum management certificate or degree; experience with building diverse audiences, grant writing, fundraising, and donor relations; teaching experience; and experience with a college or university museum or gallery program. Physical ability to move objects weighing up to 50 pounds, to climb stairs and ladders, to stoop, kneel, and crouch required.

The Meadows Museum is an educational unit of the College charged with the collection, conservation, preservation and interpretation of visual art works of museum quality; in addition, the Museum serves as a platform for exchange between the College and the larger community and as a locus of interdisciplinary activity in the arts in a college setting. The Meadows Museum of Art is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums. The Museum was established at Centenary College of Louisiana in 1975 on the occasion of the College’s 150th anniversary for the purpose of housing the Jean Despujols Collection of Paintings and Drawings of Indochina, a collection of more than 300 works, now part of a total permanent collection of 1600 works. The Museum has 425 running feet and 3100 square feet of exhibition space.

Centenary College of Louisiana is a selective, residential, national liberal arts college affiliated with the United Methodist Church. Founded in 1825, it is the oldest chartered liberal arts college west of the Mississippi river and is a member of the Associated Colleges of the South.

Centenary College is located in the Shreveport-Bossier City metroplex in NW Louisiana, named recently as a “city of opportunity” and listed among Money Magazine’s “Best Places to Live” for 2014.
