The Search

Science Gallery Detroit is a new initiative of Michigan State University (MSU) in Detroit with the mission to act as a super collider of people and ideas via art and science. Initiated in 2017, the project aligns with MSU’s goal to create the next generation of public engagement and learning to support the land-grant mission. Science Gallery Detroit seeks a new Director who will be a key university leader in building connections among MSU, the local Detroit community, and the greater global community via the Science Gallery International Network.  As one of only seven members in the network and the first in the Americas, Science Gallery Detroit is poised to be an international leader in engaging young people in innovative and interdisciplinary conversations that reimagine what education looks like in the 21st Century.

Science Gallery seeks to engage people, particularly 15-25 year olds, in connective, participative, and surprising ways. Science Gallery’s informal learning model is not about providing answers but about working with others to formulate big questions and spark new ways to answer them. Science Gallery also serves as a bridge between Detroit and the MSU campus, and through the international network, a bridge to a global community of creative problem solving. Science Gallery Detroit has created two summer exhibitions at pop up locations. With a permanent location scheduled to open in the fall 2020, Science Gallery is entering a new phase with a strong foundation for the vision of the new Director. This is an extraordinary opportunity to provide leadership to a highly regarded academic institution and serve as a global trailblazer through the unique collaboration and considerable potential of the growing Science Gallery Network.
