Marketing Manager – Hilliard Art Museum, University of Louisiana at Lafayette

Job Description: The Marketing Manager will lead the marketing, communications and PR efforts of the museum in a way that prioritizes creativity, university and community participation, membership development and continual analysis/evaluation of activities. The enthusiastic and entrepreneurial work of the Marketing Manager supports the growth of the museum’s local, regional, national and international reputation as well as supporting revenue-generating programs such as membership event rentals, store sales and fundraising. The position reports to the Director and works closely with the Development Manager to support strategic goals.  The competitive candidate also brings design experience so that he/she can effectively work with the Curator advising on exhibition design as needed and supervising student intern(s) that provide design and digital media support.

The Hilliard Art Museum (HUAM) is located on the campus of University of Louisiana at Lafayette (UL). The museum is comprised of two buildings, the original 1967 A. Hays Town building and the newer state-of-the-art Hilliard Museum with three exhibition galleries and a store featuring unique gifts and crafts by local artists. The museum’s collection features over 2,000 objects including European and American painting, Japanese prints, folk art and a collection of Egyptian art. The museum works collaboratively with the university’s nine colleges – including the College of Arts – as well as with local, national and international partners to present exhibitions and programs on the art of our time.  With a student population of nearly 19,000 and the culturally rich community of Acadiana around us, we celebrate the creative spirit that infuses every aspect of life here from food and drink to music, art and dance.

Duties & Responsibilities

— Work with the Director to determine long-term marketing strategies and messaging for the Museum.
— Coordinate and execute all marketing activities for museum exhibitions and programs including Viewfinder magazine, press releases, event invitations, website and social media outlets. Act as primary liaison to the UL Communications.

–Serve as public spokesperson for the museum as needed
— Work with staff members, interns, and volunteers to support their participation in social media activities and creation of promotional material.
— Oversee purchase, design, and placement of all advertising, performing research to place ads most effectively.

— Work with Store Manager and Events Coordinator in the development and execution of effective strategies for marketing in order to meet earned revenue targets

— Work with director, design staff and student workers in the development and production of print and electronic media to promote the museum and its programs
— Work closely with exhibition staff to develop creative ideas for design of exhibitions and related graphics

— Perform other duties as may be required from time to time.

Preferred Qualifications:
— Excellent communication skills; personable and diplomatic in working with diverse constituencies and capable of inspiring participation from partners, media outlets, and community members.
— Enthusiastic about teamwork. Ability to work well with staff, students, and volunteers to promote the philosophy and goals of the Museum.

–Excellent design skills with experience in print and online production
— Self-driven; able to multitask and lead student workers to manage productivity. Entrepreneurial, creative, and superb on follow-through.
— Experience working with a variety of social media tools and creative approaches to community engagement both online and out in the world.

— Bachelor’s degree and prior experience in marketing preferred.
— Knowledge of Contemporary Art a plus.
