About The Position:The School of Arts & Sciences provides excellence in learning opportunities for all students at SUNY Plattsburgh through a core liberal arts education. We develop students who can think critically, have mastered their discipline, can communicate effectively, and are broadly educated. The Plattsburgh State Art Museum (PSAM)collects, studies, preserves, exhibits, interprets, and publishes original works of art while advancing the academic goals of the college as well as contributing to the campus climate and the cultural education of the surrounding community. As an integral part of the department, this position will be responsible for ensuring the overall safety, preservation, maintenance, and documentation for all works in PSAM’s collection. Additional duties are expected to include, but are not limited to: receiving, preparing and cataloguing new acquisitions; planning and organization exhibition-related movement of objects; managing the database of collection contents and photography for the collection; and supervising art preparation staff, consultants and student workers. Required Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Museum Studies, Material Culture, Public History, Art History, Art or other related disciplineExperience handling and caring for material artifacts in a museum settingStrong computer and digital skills, including experience using collections management software, such as PastPerfect or similar, proficiency with MS Office, and the ability to learn new software programsExcellent research, writing, editing, and copyediting skillsAbility to handle multiple priorities with flexibility and adaptabilityExcellent project management and leadership skillsAbility to perform manual labor and repetitive actions over time, including bending, climbing, moving, and lifting material up to 40lbsKnowledge of best practices in conservation, object handling, insurance, and museum legal and ethical issuesDemonstrated ability to work effectively and collegially with faculty, staff and administrators
Preferred Qualifications:Master’s degree in Museum Studies, Material Culture, Public History, Art History, Art or other related discipline
