The Harn Museum of Art invites applications for a Building Maintenance and Security Supervisor. Reporting to the Director of the Museum, the individual in this position will plan, develop, and manage the physical security and maintenance programs, being responsible for the protection and care of the museum building and objects of art, staff members, and public therein. The Building Maintenance and Security Supervisor is an integral part of the Harn Museum of Art team and will have supervision over security and maintenance staff. This highly responsible position executes numerous administrative tasks that support the overall function of the Museum. Preference will be given to candidates with five or more years of experience in building maintenance and security, particularly within universities or museums.

Since opening in 1990, the Harn Museum of Art at the University of Florida has been a cornerstone of the North Central Florida arts and culture ecosystem. In addition to serving the students and faculty of the University, the Harn is the most prominent fine art museum in the greater North Central Florida region and demonstrates its commitment to being a cultural resource through its free admission and educational activities. The museum is known for its high quality and relevant exhibitions, many of which have toured across the United States. The Harn’s collections consist of more than 13,000 works of art. They focus on African, Asian, modern and contemporary art, and photography with significant representation of Ancient American and Oceanic art, and a growing collection of prints and drawings before 1850.

The Harn Museum of Art is part of the University of Florida’s Cultural Plaza, which is also home to the Florida Museum of Natural History and the Phillips Center for the Performing Arts. JOB DESCRIPTION

The successful candidate will possess the ability to take initiative, strong attention to detail, and time management skills and will have these responsibilities:

  • In collaboration with the Director, creates maintenance and security policies and procedures to meet the needs of the Harn Museum of Art

·         Plans, directs, coordinates, and supervises maintenance and repair subcontractors and preventative maintenance contracts; manages scheduling, documentation, and cost analysis for all maintenance and repair projects

  • Oversees the daily operation of physical security controls; manages building access, visitor, and parcel control systems
  • Supervises all security, maintenance, and landscape personnel
  • Develops and implements security schedules. Manages on-call schedule for museum staff
  • Oversees a security and maintenance budget
  • Makes recommendations to the Director for minor and major maintenance and repair projects; oversees repair and renovation projects
  • Maintenance of the museum’s landscapes, indoor and outdoor gardens, and water features; supervising the personnel hired to do so
  • Schedules and responds to annual fire, elevator, and chemical inspections.
  • Oversees disposal of surplus property, equipment, inventory, and supplies. 
  • On call for security alarms and emergency maintenance.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization; or a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree and two years of experience; or high school diploma with four years of experience are appropriate.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who have 5 or more years of supervisory/management experience, especially in a higher education, arts-related setting.
  • Solid organizational and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Extensive building and maintenance management experience.
  • Strong leadership abilities with proven experience in supervising and motivating part-time and full-time employees.
  • Excellent knowledge of security systems, practices, and procedures with the ability to address and resolve security-related issues effectively.
  • Knowledge of art museum security.
  • Knowledge of University of Florida policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of safety practices, both UF and art museums.
  • Detail oriented, independent, creative thinker.
  • Demonstrated computer and writing skills.
  • Evidence of working successfully in diverse and changing environments.

SALARY RANGE: $45,600 TO $72,900
