Position SummaryThe Director of Education of UNO’s Samuel Bak Museum: The Learning Center will oversee all aspects K-12 education programming and outreach including: K-12 field trips, K-12 collateral materials, audience outreach for community based Museum programming, community based programming and outreach efforts. The Director of Education will oversee student docents and any staff dedicated to K-12 tours and discussions. They are responsible for creating all K-12 tour materials (all collaterals, lesson plans, post/pre tour materials). They will work collaboratively and in partnership with the Chief Curator to create community outreach programs that welcome a diverse audience to the Museum. They are responsible for ensuring all K-12 field trips are aligned with NE State Standards (and other surrounding states as the program grows).

The Director of Education will be the primary tour leader for K-12 tours for the Museum. While other staff tour, including student docents, the Director of Education will create materials needed to train Field Trip Tour staff/volunteers.

The Director of Education will develop and strengthen relationships with metro and regional K-12 entities including all school districts, NE State Education staff/departments, homeschool groups, and UNO faculty/staff. They will be responsible for ensuring all youth safety staff training/background checks have been completed on time in regards to youth safety training standards set by UNO and related units.

The Director of Education will be responsible for booking field trips in the space. They will work collaboratively with the Business and Administrative Manager when using the EMS booking system. They will also be the main Museum liaison with IHE Searching for Humanity field trip collaborations and represent the Museum across the community in the education field.

This staff member must be a team player, willing to participate in all aspects of the Museum and collaborate on all efforts the Museum creates for community partnerships. The Director of Education will work with Executive Director to assist in seeking out education specific funding and will provide the necessary language/information needed for grants and other funding proposals.

The Director of Education works in partnership with the Business and Administration Manager as well as the Executive Director and other staff to create content for the Museum website, social media posts and promotional materials for K-12 programmatic offerings and audience engagement outreach. They will also maintain financial records and manage sections of the budget responsibly. They act as a liaison to the community for Samuel Bak Museum: The Learning Center. They will work closely with the artis, Samuel Bak and Pucker Gallery representatives.
