The Deputy Director of the University of South Florida Contemporary Art Museum is a critical member of the leadership team of USF’s Institute for Research in Art, which includes the world-renowned Graphicstudio, the Contemporary Art Museum, and the Public Art program. The position reports to the Director of the Institute for Research in Art and oversees strategic planning, personnel, programs, the permanent collection, marketing, and financial support of the Museum.

Research and identify public and private funding sources and provide leadership for financial support for the Museum including grant applications, corporate partnership program and other fundraising initiatives.

Manage the day-to-day activities of USFCAM including all personnel and programs and provide leadership and motivation to maintain a cooperative and effective working environment for faculty, staff and students.  Oversee the operations and maintenance of the museum’s facility.

Work directly with the director of the Institute to develop strategic planning to include curatorial research, temporary exhibitions, educational programs, development of budgets and financial support.

Ensure the timely execution of all programs including exhibitions, events, promotion and marketing and the design and publication of supportive materials such as catalogues and brochures while adhering to institutional policies and protocols and departmental budgets.

Evaluate staff, maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with museum staff, visitors, donors, vendors, community partners, and representatives of other museums nationally and internationally.

Develop interdisciplinary relationships across USF campuses and foster connections with other institutions and organizations.

Serve as a persuasive and articulate communicator to represent the USF Contemporary Art Museum to local, national and international constituents.

Serve as lecturer for arts administration and serve as faculty for internships and directed study.

Minimum Qualifications:
Advanced degree in art history, art studio practice, museum studies, arts administration or equivalent experience.

Demonstrated extensive knowledge of contemporary art.

Minimum of five years experience in a supervisory arts administration position.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with the mission, structure, and operation of the visual arts museum at all levels, including budgetary and long-range strategic planning. Experience researching and developing funding sources, working with donors, and a proven record of successfully applying for, receiving, and administering grants.

Experience working in a research-oriented academic environment coupled with a commitment to arts education in higher education; the ability to promote and foster interdisciplinary practices; and a demonstrated commitment to promoting a climate of diversity throughout the institution and its programming.

Vision, leadership, and excellent managerial and supervisory skills and experience working with a wide range of museum faculty and staff. Excellent oral and written communication skills; strong organization skills and attention to detail, deadlines and follow through.

Curatorial experience with a record of exhibitions in contemporary art and working with artists to realize commissioned projects or exhibitions.

Desire and ability to work in a collaborative environment with artists, faculty, staff, students, visitors, and community partners. History of serving as an advocate for the arts, and ability to represent the museum to local, national and international partners and constituents.
